I had a friend named Joe Hallett. He was funny and smart and he had a beautiful singing voice. He died of AIDS a few years ago. Before he died he wrote an article in response to Mel White's book, "A Stranger At the Gate". I was assigned this book in a class I took for teacher diversity training. I found it very interesting, but wanted to hear another perspective on the matter, which Joe's article provided. Another book that helped provide the "other side of the story" is titled, "A Strong Delusion" by Joe Dallas. I recommend reading both White's and Dallas' books to gain a better understanding of this issue.
